Adventureland is Iowa's only amusement park is located in the city of Altoona not too far from Des Moines and this is an independent park not related to Six Flags or Cedar Fair or any other amusement chains and they offer a collection of amusement rides and roller coasters the latest roller coaster which opened in 2020
Amusement Park
That was the first time that they had a roller coaster in like over a decade so they definitely out the type of parks that's going to be adding a new attraction every single year but is certainly a nice place that you visit maybe every few years spend a couple hours there when I visit Adventureland I believe I spent less than six hours there and I was able to get pretty much everything done that could be done obviously if you have a family with young kids it might take you a bit longer if you are a water park fan Adventureland does have a water park I didn't get a chance to go inside
And check it out I did get a little footage of it seemed like a nice little place so I'm not really going to be talking about the water park in this review but I will give an overview of the park so you can know what to expect to a new visit talking about the full experience starting when you get there one thing I liked is that when you park parking isn't too expensive compared to some parks we're paying like over 20 or 25 dollars this is not too bad I remember it being around ten dollars so you park you go up to the entrance you buy your ticket again like parking tickets aren't too expensive I remember each ticket being around $30 or so don't quote me on that if you want the specific amounts definitely go check out the parks website but that is what I remember so you're going to go up to the entrance
And one thing and take note is that they'll have a list of the attractions not operating at the park right above the sign so that you know what to expect unfortunately for us the best attraction in the whole park was closed when we went so we didn't get to check out their new for 2020 roller coaster monster because apparently Iowa is prone to lots of winds which was something that I had not known about because monster has lots of moments where if there's too much wind
Amusement Park
The ride could roll back so they closed the ride due to high winds which is also why storm chaser wasn't open which is their kind of wind seeker style ride so definitely know that if you're going on a windy day be warned some attractions will close it was really quite a bummer the only coaster we are really looking forward to was closed when we went there was a point that before we went inside we were like is this even worth it like monsters
And open should we even bother going inside like is it really worth it obviously we did end up going in and I'm glad that we did but still definitely even though I didn't write it you can tell that Monster is the star of the show here the rest of the coasters were pretty mediocre outlaw was pretty good that was their CCI wooden coaster that was definitely kind of their second-best coaster in the park the others were pretty mediocre at best we're talking about the park experience this is a pretty charming little place I'm a big fan of kind of the classic theming that it has there's a whole area called outlaw Gulch that's kind of your western town
And I really like that and I also thought that the landscaping was well done as you're walking around they have lots of grass planted some planters some flowers it's a very nice-looking park which is always a good thing now talking about some of the unique things about this park one thing I did not expect at all I was really taken back about was that they have a full-out circus they're unfortunate I don't have any footage of it because you aren't allowed to film when you're watching it but I did get to check it out for a bit
Amusement Park
Buy out lawed they have a circus that you can just go and watch for free it was really good that performers were really talented so definitely go check that out when you visit as for the food I really only had one meal here I believe I had a sub or something like that and like the admission and parking it wasn't too expensive I remember being around like $6 which is like the price of a sub if you go to Subway so if you bring the family eating here is definitely something that you should be able to afford now I know one concern for people is going to be lines how are the lines how is the capacity
And when I went it was absolutely dead there was like no one there I think the longest line I waited in was for underground which is their dark ride roller coaster and even that was probably no more than 10 to 15 minutes everything else was they walk on I don't recall how many trains they were running on some of these rides I think for some of them they were running one train others might have been running two it has been a while since I visited so I'm not quite sure about that but I do remember that the employees were nice there were a lot of older employees who are very kind to us
and they make jokes and just have fun and you could tell they were enjoying their job which is always a good thing so I think to just kind of wrap things up Adventureland is a cute little Museum Park if you're passing through Iowa are trying to hit up multiple amusement parks in a trip I would say it's worth it to stop at Adventureland however I'm not sure it's worth it to go out of your way to visit definitely visit if it kind of makes sense in the route like we squish Adventureland in between Worlds of Fun in Six Flags Great America
And that made sense because you're going through where Adventureland is so if you're doing kind of a similar route then I'd say yeah definitely hit up Adventureland but I wouldn't say it's worth it to fly all the way to Iowa just so that you can visit and check it out especially when you have a coaster like monster that seems to never be open so those are just some of my thoughts about the park let me know if you've been here what you think of it post
